Apple has launched iPad Mini in October 2012 in USA. However , like all other products from the company , the same was not released in India at the time of its official release in USA.
Now , after a long span of one month , there is a buzz in the market that the iPad Mini is going to be launched in India in the first week of December 2012. Though , some online shopping sites like eBay had already started taking pre-orders for the same.
Here we have listed out the features and specs of iPad Mini (India) , ahead of its official release.
Display
For the first time , Apple has stepped back in terms of display and used a comparatively lower resolution screen for its devices. After the launch of iPhone 4 and iPad 3 , it was assumed that all the devices from the house of Apple would be having Retina Display . However, to fit the existing apps with resolution and screen size , the company has set the resolution at 1024 x 768 pixels at 7.9 inch screen size , which makes Pixels density of 162.03 PPI . Though , this density is not bad at all , it nowhere stands with the density of recently launched devices by the company.
Apple claims that this dimensions provides almost 15-20% more space to the screen , which can provide better browsing experience.
Connectivity
Apple has introduced new lightning cable (propitiatory) instead of 30-pin cable , for the purpose of charging the battery as well as data synchronization. In addition to this , the iPad Mini comprises ‘blazing fast’ dual band Wi-Fi (in the own words of Apple) + optional support for LTE (at higher prices) .
Camera
The iPad Mini has got 5 megapixels rear facing primary camera , with a support of full HD (1080p) video recording. There is a front camera which can be used for video calling via FaceTime , Skype or other similar services. It has got a support of HD Video calls , which makes good impression.
Performance
Apple has put A5X – Dual Core processor along with 512 MB of RAM (as per various sources over the web). Though , these specs do not create a good impression , the company claims that the apps for iPad Mini are designed in such a way that these specs are sufficient enough for best performance of the apps .
In terms of battery backup , the iPad Mini is a clear winner among most of the other 7-inch tablets available in the market.
Operating System and applications
The iPad Mini comes with iOS 6 ,which is the latest operating system in iPad Mini. It has got some exciting features like Siri and improved performance. There are couple of other features like AirPlay and AirPrint , though As far as the applications support is concerned , each and every apps (from official Apple App Store) for iPad are supported in iPad Mini.
If you are living in the Apple ecosystem , you will find it very easy to use specially developed apps for iPad. This is one of the biggest advantage for Apple Products. Google’s Play Store for Android apps does not have apps , specifically designed for tablets , which makes it extremely difficult to have the real fun of tablet apps on Android devices.
Prices and availability
At the time of launching , Apple had revealed the prices for different versions of iPad Mini.
The price of 16 GB Wi-Fi Model in US is $329.
In India , the prices for iPad Mini are not declared officially , though some sellers on ebay were providing pre-booking , starting at the prices (obviously, with premiums) around Rs.27000 ($487) .
It is speculated that the basic model (16 GB , Wi-Fi ) will cost in India around Rs.22000. Though , no one has any official information about the release of iPad Mini in India , it is assumed that it will be available in India from the First week of December.
